A Statistical Observation of the Corneal Foreign Bodies

Abstract
|
|
|
The authors have statistically analysed 359 cases of corneal foreign bodies among 636 cases of ocular injuries in 5,420 Out-and In-patients who visited to a private eye clinic at Young Deong-Po (from Jan.1.1964. to Dec31.1964).
1. The incidence of ocular injuries was 11.79 of all eye patients.
2. Ocular foreign bodies occupied 66of ocular injuries.
Extra-ocular foreign bodies (97%) was much more than intra-ocular (37¢¥).
3. Incidence of Corneal foreign bodies was 88.4,% of extra-ocular foreign bodies, which was 56.6 % of ocular injuries in this clinic.
4. They (corneal foreign bodies)were mostly male (91.2%) and ranged from 11 to 40 year old.
5. The most common cause of corneal foreign body was iron piece.
6. The prognosis for vision was almostly good when early removal of foreign bodies and proper post operative cares were performed.
